IDEAs that work

Finding information on the internet is easy.

Finding good information on the internet can be quite a challenge.

Although not fully comprehensive, the U.S. Office of Special Education Programs (OSEP) attempts to help parents access vetted information on the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) through their website and logo IDEAs that Work.

They hope to provide teachers and parents with resources endorsed by the U.S. Office of Special Education Programs. Look for links from the IDEAs that Work webpage or from their partners that have been approved to carry their logo.

Social Thinking - Michelle Garcia Winner

Michelle Garcia Winner is a Speech and Language Pathologist who is considered one of the leading experts on teaching social skills.

She has many resources available on her website Social Thinking.

She recently posted a blog in response to the question, "If treatment doesn't offer a cure, then what's the point?"

In this video, Michelle demonstrates a discussion on social skills using a volunteer from the audience who also happened to be on the autism spectrum.

Video - The Asperger Experts - Sensory Funnel

This is an interesting video from the Asperger Experts.
These are two gentlemen who themselves have been diagnosed with Asperger's Syndrome.
It provides an great perspective from the individual, not the parent or professional.
I agree with many things that they say, but I would recommend not delaying therapy or interventions.
All of these things would best be addressed at the same time.
